Video -Trump’s MS-13 Deportations Cause Chaos in El Salvador – VICE News Reports

Video -Published on Sep 15, 2017 – MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, has long been known as one of the deadliest street gangs in the world, but under the Trump administration the fight against this criminal network of mostly Salvadoran young men, many of whom are immigrants, has ramped up dramatically.

MS-13 wasn’t created in El Salvador — it was born in Los Angeles in the 1980s, founded by refugees from El Salvador’s civil war. In the 1980s, many of those gang members were deported back to El Salvador—where they quickly took advantage of the war-torn nation.

Now, with the Trump Administration vowing to eliminate the gang at all costs, VICE News gained rare access inside the underworld of MS-13 in El Salvador as they are hunted by police and rival gangs and they tell VICE New that the rhetoric from the White House has struck a nerve and warn there will be deadly consequences to the crackdown.

What it’s like to fly into a Category 5 hurricane – Hurricane Irma – VICE News Reports

Published on Sep 10, 2017 – Hurricane Irma – What it’s like to fly into a Category 5 hurricane

Even with all the technology at the U.S. government’s disposal, the best way to gather data from a hurricane is still the hard way: flying into the storm in a propeller plane.

That’s exactly what the men and women of 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron do. Better known as the “Hurricane Hunters,” this all-reserve Air Force unit is tasked with piloting their WC-130J aircraft directly into the eye of a hurricane.

VICE News secured a ride with the Hurricane Hunters as they flew into the eye of Hurricane Irma, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic. The Hurricane Hunters don’t fly into storms for fun. During their flight an array of instruments collect and transmit data used to predict how active storms will develop, and move.

The Philippine Army says it has retaken most of the southern city of Marawi from the ISIS-linked militants.

Militants linked to the Islamic State invaded the Filipino city of Marawi more than a week ago, prompting President Rodgrigo Duterte to declare martial law and step up the offensive against the rebels.

According to the government, more than 100 people have died during the fighting while thousands of civilians have fled to nearby provinces.

The civilians who remain are stuck between ruthless Islamic rebels, and a president who openly encourages atrocities against his own people.

VICE News reports from the ground in Marawi.
